International Day of Disabled People 2009

St. Chad's Parish Centre

December 3rd is International Day of Disabled People, and each year an international theme for the day is announced. The theme for 2009 is Realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for all: the empowerment of disabled people and their communities around the world. This is based on the goal of the full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by disabled people.

During the day there will be:

discussion groups and briefing

information about community groups and services

refreshments

Ice Cube

In February 2008, the PSINetwork had one session on the Ice Cube in Millennium Square. It was very successful. We didn't break the world record for the largest number of wheelchair users on ice but we had great fun trying

This year we have been given one session a week every Thursday between 11 - 11.45 - the last session will be on March 5th.

These sessions are free and places are booked through the PSINetwork. We need to know you are coming so that the Ice Cube can arrange the appropriate level of staffing.

We will be having another attempt on the world record on Thursday February 26th - make a note of it in your diary.

December 3rd - International Day of Disabled People (IDDP)

               dignity & justice

The theme for 2008 International Day of Disabled People (IDDP). The PSINetwork (Leeds) held a celebration event at St. Chad's Parish Centre which was well atttended despite the very icy conditions that day. There should be photos here but, for whatever reason, they do not show in my browser.

 

OK I have worked it out - I do not have enough space on the server to add photos. And the reason there was not enough space appears to be that every time I tried to download the pictures - and it didn't work - I assumed I had failed to load the pictures and managed to save them again and again!
